Meet SUJAN SELVEN – Who Is Running For The Seat Of CHIFLEY For The Greens Party

WHO IS SUJAN SELVEN?

Sujan Selven is the pre-selected Greens candidate for the NSW federal electorate of Chifley, which is located in the Western suburbs of Sydney;
Sujan has lived in Western Sydney for more than 20 years, and works as a community worker and human rights advocate;
He has an Advanced Diploma in Events and Business Management and currently works in the telecommunications industry;
His past jobs including being an interpreter;

WHAT DOES THE FEDERAL ELECTORATE OF CHIFLEY LOOK LIKE?

The federal NSW seat of Chifley is located in the Western suburbs of Sydney and covers the suburbs of Blacktown, Eastern Creek, Plumpton, Whalan, Marayong, Hoppers Crossing, Marsden Park etc – (you can find out more on the suburbs on the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) website);
The seat of Chifley is currently held by Labor MP Ed Husic;
The demographics of Chifley is extremely diverse, with (57.7%) of the electorate’s population having both parents born overseas. Those coming from a Filipino background made up (8.9%), Indian background (5.5%) and Pakistani background made up (1.7%);

WHY IS SUJAN PUTTING HIS HAND UP AND RUNNING AS A CANDIDATE?

Sujan is running as a candidate because as a community worker, I heard so many stories of people’s bad experiences with government at all levels. I felt so disappointed and began to want to create change, so that the government would really work for the community;
He is believes a Treaty must be signed with Australia’s First Nations peoples to honor their unneeded sovereighty;
Sujan is committed to work with The Greens to create a Medicare system that covers dental and mental health;
He believes there needs to be action to address the climate crisis, and that education at all levels from childhood to TAFE and university needs to all be free;
Sujan is passionate about ensuring there is family reunions for accepted refugees;
