Meet SUJIT MATHEW – Who Is Running For The Seat Of HOLT For The Greens Party

WHO IS SUJIT MATHEW?

  • Sujit Mathew is the pre-selected Greens candidate for the VIC federal electorate of Holt, which is located in the outer south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne;
  • Sujit migrated to Australia in 2013 and lives in Clyde North which he describes as being very “vibrant” and “multicutural”;
  • Before migrating to Australia, Sujit worked with the United Nations in sustainable policy development, and found it hard to find a job when he first arrived as a skilled migrant;

WHAT DOES THE FEDERAL ELECTORATE OF HOLT LOOK LIKE?

  • The federal VIC seat of Holt is located in the outer south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne and covers the suburbs of Clyde, Bind Bight, Botanic Ridge, Cranbourne, Hampton Park etc – (you can find out more on the suburbs on the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) website);
  • The seat of Holt is currently held by Labor MP Anthony Byrne;
  • The demographics of Holt has large populations of those coming from an Indian background (7.4%), Sri Lankan (4.2%) and Afghanistan (3.7%). Also almost (60%) of those living in the electorate of Holt have both parents born overseas;

WHY IS SUJIT PUTTING HIS HAND UP AND RUNNING AS A CANDIDATE?

  • Sujit is running as a candidate because first and foremost he wants to represent the vibrant, multicultural and diverse community of Holt;
  • He is passionate about fighting for climate change action to ensure a healthy environment and a healthy economy;
