Meet COURTNEY NGUYEN- Who Is Running For The Seat Of FOWLER For The Liberal Party

WHO IS COURTNEY NGUYEN?

  • Courtney Nguyễn is the pre-selected Liberal Party candidate for the NSW federal electorate of Fowler, which is located in the south western suburbs of Sydney;
  • Courtney arrived in Australia almost 30 years ago from Vietnam and has lived in both Cabramatta and then Edensor Park;
  • She spends her time helping local Vietnamese community organisations and is an active member of the Cancer Council NSW and a supporter of Meals on Wheels in Liverpool;

WHAT DOES THE FEDERAL ELECTORATE OF FOWLER LOOK LIKE?

  • The federal NSW seat of Fowler is located in the south western suburbs of Sydney and covers the suburbs of Cabramatta, Cabramatta West, Canley Heights, Chipping Norton, Liverpool etc – ( you can find out more on the suburbs on the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) website);
  • The seat of Fowler is currently held by Labor MP Chris Hayes, who is retiring from politics. There was controversy on the Labor pre-selection process where hopeful Vietnamese Australian lawyer Tu Le was cast aside and Kristina Keneally ( who is currently a senator) was parachuted in to be the Labor candidate;
  • The demographics of Fowler are quite diverse with a large population of those coming from a Vietnamese background (15.2%), Iraqi background (6.8%), Cambodian (3.4%), Chinese (2.2%) and Indian (1.6%);

WHY IS COURTNEY PUTTING HER HAND UP AND RUNNING AS A CANDIDATE?

  • Courtney wants to use her local knowledge of communities to secure funding for essential services which will make the Australian economy stronger;
  • She is passionate about ensuring taxes stay low;
  • She also wants to back local small businesses to create more jobs;
