Meet ZHI SOON – Who Is Running For The Seat Of BANKS For The Labor Party

WHO IS ZHI SOON?

  • Zhi Soon is the pre-selected Labor candidate for the NSW federal seat of Banks which is located in Sydney’s south;
  • Zhi migrated with his family from Malaysia as child, living first in Hurstville before settling in Revesby;
  •  Zhi Soon himself lives in Padstow with his partner and his sister and her family living in Kenthurst – so he is pretty much through and through a “Banks boy”;
  • He was as a diplomat for DFAT in Afghanistan, which is what piqued his interest and passion in the public sector;
  • Currently he is working for the Australian Institute of Teaching and School Leadership;

WHAT IS THE FEDERAL ELECTORATE OF BANKS LIKE?

  • The federal NSW seat of Banks is located in the southern part of Sydney and includes suburbs such as Padstow, Panania, Peakhurst, and Revesby etc – (you can find out more on the suburbs on the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) website);
  • The seat of Banks is currently held by Liberal MP David Coleman;
  • The demographics of Banks, the  Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) reports that around (55%) of Bank’s population were born overseas with (16.2%) identifying as having Chinese ancestry with Nepalese, Hong Kong and Vietnamese as the other main Asian backgrounds;

WHY IS ZHI PUTTING HIS HAND UP AND RUNNING AS A CANDIDATE?

  • Zhi is running as a candidate because he believes Australia needs a federal government that cares about his area and community;
  • He is committed to creating secure, well-paid jobs by working with business to rebuild manufacturing, grow new industries and train a high skilled workforce;
  • He wants to strengthen Medicare, making it easier and more affordable to see a doctor;
  • Invest in education, TAFE and more affordable childcare to help our children succeed; 
  • Build better infrastructure to reduce congestion;
